From Destitution to Dignity: Why We’re Raising Urgent Funds to Support Women Seeking Asylum
Right now, in Greater Manchester, women who came here hoping to find safety are instead facing homelessness, hunger, and despair.
They have fled war, persecution, trafficking and violence, only to be met by a system that too often leaves them with nothing. No right to work. No access to benefits. No home. No income.
This is destitution by design, and it’s leaving thousands of people at serious risk.
We believe everyone deserves more than this. That’s why we’ve launched our crowdfunder From Destitution to Dignity.
What is Destitution in the Asylum System?
In the UK, people seeking asylum are not allowed to work and often face long delays in receiving decisions. If someone is refused asylum or is waiting for an appeal, they may be left with no support at all.
This means they are:
Unable to rent a home or access shelters
Denied food and basic essentials
At risk of exploitation, poor health, and street homelessness
What Your Support Will Do
Through the From Destitution to Dignity appeal, we’re raising funds to help women in our network access:
✅ safe, emergency accommodation
✅ food, hygiene items and essential supplies
✅ emotional support
✅ a life with dignity, not one just of survival
Even a small contribution can go a long way.
£10 could provide a hot meal and essentials
£25 could pay for a night in safe accommodation
£50 could support someone through a month of crisis
How You Can Help
Donate what you can – every pound counts.
Share the crowdfunder on social media, in your workplace, or community group.
Speak out about the injustice people face in the asylum system.
This Isn’t Just About Charity—It’s About Justice
We don’t believe anyone should be forced into destitution just for seeking safety.
The UK asylum system may be hostile, but our communities don’t have to be. Together, we can show that dignity, compassion, and solidarity are stronger than cruelty.
Thank you for standing with us.
