International Women’s Day

International Women's Day is celebrated to honour the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. The day is an opportunity to raise awareness about issues such as gender discrimination, and violence against women.  This year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion, which is part of our vision.

International Women’s Day coincided with our drop-in on Friday 8th.

The daily activities were suspended, and we dedicated the day to celebrating women.  Women spoke about their culture, traditions, and beliefs.  These are some of the comments women gave; my culture makes me feel a sense of belonging and identity, women need to be celebrated for them to know they are loved, International Women’s Day should not only be once a year but celebrated every day for the contributions the women make in the community they live in, be it big or small, they create a positive impact. At WAST we fight for the rights of women.

Women danced away to the cultural dances, and we all left having learnt a new thing about each other’s culture
