WAST statement: Removal of housing protections

The government plans exempt asylum accommodation from the HMO licencing arrangements. Like a huge number of organisations we strongly oppose this decision. Responding to the news our Management group said:

Once again the government has put forward proposals that will erode our right to safety away from persecution and fear.

Women in our network already experience appalling housing conditions and these plans will only further the housing crisis that people seeking asylum experience.

We urge the government to take an approach that is sensitive to gender and trauma. And one which enables people seeking asylum to live in a safe place where they can build a happy life in their new community.
